How to choose the right music for your Wedding in Cornwall

A very important element of planning your wedding in Cornwall is choosing the right wedding music. Would you prefer a wedding guitarist, a live band, your sister on the saxophone or the good old Ipod? Do you have a song that reminds you of the first time you met or when you proposed that you would like to be played? Classic or contemporary? So many questions but you want to be sure you get it right. In fact the chosen music will often determine whether guests will say: “That was a fantastic wedding”.

Here are a few ideas to help you choose the right wedding music for your wedding in Cornwall.

Music for your Wedding Ceremony
Choose something subtle for the wedding ceremony, you don’t want all eyes on Slash whilst you are taking one of the most important steps in your life in front of your friends and family. As your guests arrive and take their seats a wedding guitarist can play your favourite songs or some relaxed ambient music like Spanish guitar. For your grand entrance (and exit) choose something classic like the Wedding March or the Beatles classic ‘Here comes the sun’.

Music for your Wedding Breakfast
During the wedding breakfast your guests will enjoy the delicious dinner whilst taking the time to get to know other people sat at their table or to catch up with old friends. So what you need is nice cheerful background music that enhances the great atmosphere but doesn’t make it difficult to have a conversation; some classical music might be suitable or if you like it a bit more light hearted how about some contemporary folk or pop music played by a wedding guitarist?

The First Dance
The First Dance is one of the most memorable moments of your wedding. Choose a first dance tune that matches the way you feel about each other or that reminds you of a past moment in your lives together. You don’t have to practise a dance routine for weeks on end if that’s not what you want to do but make sure that your song is ‘danceable’. Also bear in mind when choosing the song for your first dance that you want to like that song and think of it with happy memories for many years to come, so selecting a song that you will still enjoy in 20 years time is crucial. Maybe not the ‘Harlem Shake’?

The Wedding Party
When writing the play list for your wedding party think about all the songs that make you want to dance but also consider what your guests would like (hopefully that would be the same sort of music). Most of your guests you would have known for a long time or they are your family so it shouldn’t be too difficult to decide which songs will make them hit the dancefloor.

If your mum loves Barry Manilow then you might slip in one or two songs onto your play list but also make sure you hand the DJ a list of songs you DON’T want him or her to play. There is nothing worse than having to listen to a song at your wedding that you have hated for years.

Whichever wedding music you choose for your wedding in Cornwall, the most important thing is that you like it because it’s your special once-in-a-lifetime day. Don’t worry about Aunti Mary who might not enjoy 50 Cent or Cousin Jeff who only appreciates Jazz music, they will be fine!
